BRT is NOT the "Crime Bus"

Myth: BRT is like LRT, the “crime train”, “loot rail” or in this case, a “crime bus”.

Fact: There is no research that we can find that shows building BRT will increase crime more than is already occurring in the community.

Next time opponents spout out this fear, ask them to produce an actual, scientifically-valid research study.  Not someone's blog, not some newspaper article.  Until they do, we thought we'd provide you with what we found.  These studies below HAVE studied the issue, and conclude there is no evidence that LRT or BRT have led to any significant increases in crime, or relocation of crime to the transit lines, between before and after they were built and opened.

The Fourth Plain BRT project will make the streets safer and more secure, with fully lit, open transit stations, increased security presence, and increased video surveillance at BRT stations along the corridor. And with more “Feet on the Street” the 4th Plain Corridor becomes a safer, healthier, better place for all of us.
