What Is BRT?

What Does a Modern, World-Class Transit System Look Like?

Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) on Fort Vancouver Way and Fourth Plain Boulevard between downtown Vancouver and Westfield Vancouver Mall.

Enhanced new stations will be an improvement on current bus stops along the corridor.  The platforms will be raised to allow for level boarding (wheelchair and bike users can roll right onto the bus and self-park), and will include graffiti-resistant, fully lit shelters, kiosks for purchasing fares before the bus arrives, and real-time rider information.  Our new buses will have twice the capacity, a special branding for easy identification of the new system along the corridor, and the added flexibility of smooth street travel alongside other traffic.  They will be longer with capacity for almost twice the number of riders as current buses.

Along Fort Vancouver Way, BRT stations will be in the center (median), serving Clark College campuses on both sides of the street as well as the Veterans’ Administration campus.  Along Fourth Plain Boulevard, all BRT stations are expected to be curbside and will not impact business access.
